My kiddo is 20 today. TWENTY! TODAY!
In honour of this bonkers achievement/milestone, I wrote this advice to my 20(ish)-year-old self. Because goddess knows my kid won’t be taking my advice any time soon.
I’m 44 and here’s what I wish I knew when I was 24
- Stay in touch with your new mom friends. It will be hard, but you will need them when you have to recruit people to school council and when you realize you don’t have any friends with kids your age.
- Stop buying crap at Value Village and put that money into savings. You will send all of that crap back to the thrift stores, and important things cost a lot more in the future.
- Every time you do something hard, it’s practice. It adds up and it makes a difference. You can (and will) do hard things, things you think are impossible right now. Don’t sell yourself short.
- Don’t throw your concert merch away! In fact, keep all of your cool clothes. The ones that make you feel like a million bucks.
- People care about you.
- Listen carefully to find your true self, but you don’t have to get married to it forever.
What I knew at 24 that’s still true
Every year is the best year.
