Monthly in south-ish Edmonton
Navigating our chores in an unjust food system, exploring our options, making time for rest and connection, and building community in Edmonton.
When
Market Meetups happen monthly on a Sunday from February through November. Please refer to our calendar for the exact dates. The market opens at 10:00 am, and we will convene in the food court. There are no meetings in January or December due to the busy-ness of the season.
Where
Bountiful Farmer’s Market is located at 3696 97 Street NW. There is a large parking lot on site (gravel, free) and bike racks. The nearest bus stop is on 34 Avenue, where you will have a 500m walk. There are no city sidewalks in this area. This is not affiliated with Bountiful in any way. Watch for Lisa in the food court – she will wearing her NLL purple sweater!
Politics
We acknowledge that sometimes the prices at a market are more expensive than a grocery chain, but we ask that you keep that to yourself around the vendors. We also know that a breakfast sausage from a chain store is not the same as one from a local butcher. Let’s compare apples to apples–and buy some local apples!
Why?
Our mission at NLL is to challenge the status quo, create caring connections, and build resilient communities in Edmonton. We all know that our mainstream food system is messed up. This is one way we can come together and push back against it. Driven by a vision to inspire change, we know that by coming together in a caring way we can truly make a difference in our lives and in the systems that no longer serve us.
This is great for folks who have never been to a farmer’s market and want company–and maybe some tips–to get started.

Other resources
If you want to disrupt the corrupt food chain in other ways, we recommend supporting New Grocery Movement. They “envision a world where power and resources are shared equitably throughout the food system so that every community has access to sustainable, local, joyful and just food.”
